Inhalt
This course explores how digital technologies have reshaped reading practices and the social role of the book. Students will examine how reading has shifted from a solitary activity to a networked practice shaped by digital platforms, social media, and algorithmic recommendation systems. Books now function not only as texts to be consumed but also as tools for social interaction, identity display, and data generation. The seminar also offers a critical reflection on how digital platforms influence literary culture and the evolving definition of what it means to be a "reader" in the digital age.In addition, students will acquire hands-on experience with distant reading approaches, including interactive web-based visualization tools to study books. They will learn to identify patterns, trends, and insights within literary texts using a wide range of digital techniques. By the end of the course, they will be able to integrate these techniques into their own research projects.
